The Bible Chronological in a Year: What to Expect

Last year, my kids read their bible in a year. I got a used one from Amazon gifted to an Amy by her auntie June & Uncle Jack. Talk about vintage 😉. It took one 5 months and the other, 8. When they talk about some of the events or ask me questions, quite frankly, they mention some things I vaguely remember. And that’s because I may have simply heard about that chapter at a sermon, not that I read it myself. There are some books in the bible that I avoid or I have never touched.

One of my goals for 2022 is to read the entire bible in a year. Why? I realize I fall into the category of those who talk a lot about God, than I actually know him. Reading through the bible should help deepen my knowledge of God, his nature and get some answers.

This is not my first attempt at doing this, but this time, I am committed and hoping to complete it. Call this some sort of accountability. The aim here is progress, not perfection. I would try my best to post my reflections daily but when I can’t, hopefully within a couple of days.

Some things to note:

• This has nothing to do with the fact that I grew up in a Christian home or may have grown up and served in the church or even taught at the Sunday school. I am not a preacher, in fact, I have been to church physically only for a couple of days since COVID came, so please manage your expectations of me and don’t hold me on an unnecessary pedestal. I say this because I know how the human mind tends to magnify things.
• This is also not to say I am perfect or a better Christian than anyone. I am one of the most imperfect humans you’d meet but I have perfection within me. I would probably get a couple of things wrong along the way.
• I am not a theologian. I am simply a Christian, studying God’s word and sharing my thoughts as I reflect on my reading. I also belong to a Christian community that I am also learning from as I read. What I would get from my reading may be different from what you would get, and that is what makes it interesting. We are all in different places in our journeys, and we wont get the same thing.
• I am not studying from a place of the religious conditioning most of us are used to, so there would be no need to judge my level of spirituality by your standards. For instance, I am asking questions and asking God questions, I may not use capital H in he or his as it refers to God.
• What happens with this blog when I am done? From where I sit, nothing! That may change at the end of the year, I don’t know. But this is simply a one-year reflection on the bible.

That said, I already started the journey on January 1 and I am reading in the order in which the events in the bible happened. It’s been exciting so far.
