Day 89
We literally read yesterday when the Israelites promised to serve God. Clearly, some time has passed because the bible says another generation grew up — 2:10. But the laws were recorded. And this makes me think about how we pass down information from generation to generation. Certain things get watered down or ultimately fizzled out.
God brought up judges to help them, but the Israelites still won’t listen. And once a judge died, they returned to worship other gods and became more corrupt. What God had said in the book of Joshua is coming to pass.
Another thing I noted in 1:19 was that they were unable to drive out the people because of their chariots. The beginning of the verse also said the Lord was with them. On day 86, in Joshua 17:1–17, Joshua had encouraged the people of Joseph when they were worried about the Canaanites and their chariots. Joshua had said they were numerous and powerful. Now today, despite the Lord being with the people of Judah, this time, their reason for not being able to drive out the Canaanites was because of their chariots. The question is, why?
