Day 47

I saw somewhere that Leviticus is where people generally get to and give up on their journey of reading through the entire bible. I think I see why — it is not easily relatable to how we live today. There are also some things I have read practiced in other religions today. An example would be where a woman cannot go to a place of worship during her monthly cycle.
I also wonder if the Jews follow these laws to the latter, given most don’t believe Jesus is the messiah.
Brief recap:
- Chapter 11 distinguishes between clean and unclean food.
- Chapter 12 talks about the purification of a woman after childbirth. I wonder why the purification process took longer for female children.
- Chapter 13 is where we read about disease control. The priests had a lot to do in those days, including inspecting diseases. 🚶🏾♀️ Can we leave the doctors to do that, please? 🙂 In all, it was for the good of the community, so the diseases are controlled and don’t spread. But it must have been tough for those ostracized not to be with their loved ones. I recall when one of my daughters caught chickenpox, and she had to isolate in another part of the house, so others don’t get it. As a mother, I couldn’t bear to watch her being alone. At some point, I decided to be with her, even if it meant me catching it, which I eventually did.
