I recall the first time I read about the 144k Jews. I must have been in Primary four, and I was so scared. I had thought God had singled out 144k people worldwide to go to heaven. I wondered if I was among them and what the point was if only 144k people had been singled out. It bothered me so much that I asked my mum. And since then, I have also heard different theologies around this.

Today’s reading had me remembering the Israelites’ story when they were warned, and eventually, they were exiled for a new beginning to happen. I love the encouragement in 7:15–17.
