The delivery of Paul’s message today was intense and called for reflection. So I have been going true the bible in different versions. I love The Voice version because it has many explanatory paragraphs as one reads through. There were many profound paragraphs with explanations, but one I’d like to share is on spirituality, and it says, “Paul’s test for spiritually immaturity: Do you argue? Do you compare yourself to others? Are you jealous? Answer “yes” to any of these, then you are spiritually immature”.

Do I hear an ouch? I can answer yes to any of these questions, and by Paul’s definition, I am spiritually immature? Double ouch! If there is an ouch there, it means something needs to change.

Spirituality doesn’t mean being religious or stupidity. You should read what the Corinthians were arguing about, which we also do today. There focus had moved away from the message of salvation to sort of contest between the spiritual leaders of those days by their followers.

I feel like “Do I want to be spiritually immature right now?” is a question we should ask ourselves in situations like arguments, comparisons, jealousy, etc. The question should help us redirect our minds or determine our response to the situation — a heart check. We can keep trying not to be jealous, not to compare, not to argue, but with the help of the holy spirit to help us. And that’s the good thing about God; He knows we are human, imperfect, and we need help. Hence, the reason we have the Holy Spirit to help us become more aware and catch ourselves in those moments.

My musings from reading the entire bible (chronological). Not a Preacher. Unravelling what I’ve been told about God to knowing him for myself
