Day 3
Today’s reading was on God’s covenants, lineage, the tower of Babel and more lineage. My reflections:
8:13&14 — Noah was in the ark for a little over a year. Rain came February 17 in today’s calendar (refer to yesterday’s post) and vs 14 says by the 27th day of the second month (February 27 in today’s calendar), the earth was completely dry.
8:21 & 22 — God’s covenant never to destroy the earth. Looking forward to seeing how this links to the new heaven and earth later in the bible. This was a covenant with Noah and we have a new covenant with God through Jesus.
9:1,7 — God says again, be fruitful. Being fruitful for me represents growth in whatever I do — financially, spiritually etc.
10:4 — Talks about people spreading across the earth, each with its own language. This was prior to the tower of babel incident in Chapter 11. So how come the verse insinuates they had different languages?
11:4 — Says they came together to build a tower to make a name for themselves. This makes me think of some things I do for self-glorification. They seldomly go well. But when it from a place of adding value to others, it is a lot better, and I even feel it. It goes back to the why.
11:6 — God acknowledged that with unity, nothing would be impossible for the people to achieve. So are we speaking the same language in our homes? As a business owner, are you and your staff in harmony with your goals? As an employee, are the values of the company you work for aligned with your goals?
11:10–32 Coming from Chapter 10, we see Abraham’s lineage. This shows that I am a name in my family’s lineage, and what I do (good or bad) would be written in the sands of time. Over the last Christmas break, my family got cash gifts from grandparents’ estates. It was surreal! All children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Most of the younger kids don’t know who grandpa and grandma were. Some have seen pictures; some heard stories. What a great example they are to us. What would generations coming after hear about me?
