Day 189
While 2 Kings 15 focuses on the many kings that ruled Judah and Israel, 2 Chronicles gives us details about Uzziah’s (a.k.a. Azariah) reign.
I couldn’t help but notice how the kings of Israel kept doing evil in God’s eyes even though the throne went through several families. One of them in today’s reading ripped pregnant women apart! On the other hand, most of the kings of Judah did right in the sight of God; however, some were more committed than others. But the throne remained in David’s family, based on God’s promise to him.
Like some of his predecessors, Uzziah started well by doing what was right. He became so powerful. However, he became so arrogant, corrupt, and unfaithful to God. He was eventually struck with a disease that separated him from the people, and the disease eventually led to his death. While he was in separation, his son, Jotham, supervised the palace administration and governed the people of the land.
This is a reminder not to forget God when one is blessed.
