Day 178
A lot in today’s reading, and I won’t be rehashing the story as it is familiar. It is about Elijah, the prophets of Baal, Jezebel, the widow and her son, and the appointment of Elisha.
During Ahab’s reign, there had been famine in the land because they worshipped Baal. Elijah was then on the run, as Ahab and his wife, Jezebel, were after his life. Elijah eventually returned, and Ahab blamed him for the land’s suffering (18:17). Elijah returned the blame (18:18), informing him that the Israelites ruined themselves because they worshipped Baal. Now, this shows us how we hardly look inwards and resort to blaming others when things go wrong. It’s cause and effect, and we must always check within when something goes wrong to see if we had a part to play in any situation.
Another observation for me was when Elijah was overwhelmed. Elijah’s feeling of overwhelm is very relatable in our world today. Elijah had killed the prophets of Baal and is on the run again because of the threat from Jezebel. He was tired, exhausted and overwhelmed, but God sent an angel to care for and nourish him.
