A familiar story today. From Solomon asking for wisdom, to how he judged the matter between the two women who had babies, to how he was revered because of his wisdom by other leaders in the world.

What resonated with me was that after Solomon made sacrifices and got God’s attention, God asked him what he wanted. Solomon was able to tell God exactly what is wanted. It means he had spent some time thinking about it. He could have asked for anything, but he didn’t, and God was really pleased by his request. When I read the part where God was pleased and also asked Solomon what he wanted, I was like, but God, you know, why ask. It occurred to me that even even though God knows our deepest thoughts, he still wants us to come to him to ask. Ask, and ye shall receive, seek, and ye shall find, knock, and the door would be opened — that’s what Jesus said.

Another thing I caught was when God said, because you want to help others and have not asked for wealth or any other thing; you will get every other thing you haven’t requested for alongside. And this is such a lesson for me. The money would flow in as long as we have products or services that genuinely help others. I have heard this severally, but God’s response to Solomon reiterates this. So I guess our focus should not simply be on money but that we are helping others in the process.

I read in a book a while back about letting people see how your services help them, and this doesn’t apply to employees only; it applies to whatever we do for a living, even if you are simply working for yourself — many gems in the bible.

I am glad wisdom is available to us all, and if we ask, we can get it. James says if any of us lacks wisdom, we should ask of God, who gives same liberally. A commentary I listened to says not to confuse wisdom for intelligence or knowledge. The facts we see online or from many readings don’t necessarily mean wisdom. Hmmm.

My musings from reading the entire bible (chronological). Not a Preacher. Unravelling what I’ve been told about God to knowing him for myself
